Reminder regarding Laws for Cannabis Use

Posted On Tuesday October 16, 2018

As you are aware, the laws for cannabis use are changing on October 17, 2018.  As parents and guardians we all have questions about the steps Ontario is taking to protect children and youth, the impact this may have on schools and what information and supports are available to parents/guardians and students.

Durham Catholic District School Board is reminding parents and students that:

  • The use of cannabis on school property still remains prohibited;
  • The use of cannabis is restricted to persons age 19 years and older;
  • Students who attend school while under the influence of cannabis or believed to be under the influence of cannabis (unless medically prescribed by a licensed physician) will be subject to progressive discipline under DCDSB policies.

The Ministry of Education has created a web page to provide parents with resources on how to talk to your child(ren) about cannabis, the use of drugs and what you need to know. For more information, click here.
