Dear Parents and Guardians,

There is nothing more important than the health and safety of our students and staff. With this in mind, I am writing to advise you that the Durham Region Health Department has made the decision to close St. Josephine Bakhita Catholic School effective Tuesday, March 30, 2021. Our board supports this decision and will move to remote learning beginning tomorrow. Students and staff will return to school following the spring break on Monday, April 19, 2021.

We continue to work with the Durham Region Health Department who are investigating the COVID-19 cases in the school. We were in the process of notifying families of our decision to move to remote learning due to ongoing staffing and operational challenges including the province wide supply staff shortage, when we received the Health Department’s decision.

Throughout the school year, staff have continued to follow all safety protocols, layers of protection and precautionary measures to ensure the health and well-being of all students. During the extended school closure, additional enhanced cleaning measures will be completed in classrooms and common areas of the school.

Teachers will be connecting with students and parent using Edsby and your child’s daily schedule will continue online.

Thank you for your cooperation. We will continue to keep the school community informed of any changes as directed by Durham Region Health Department. If you have any questions or require support, please contact your school Principal.

Yours in Faith,

Tracy Barill,
Director of Education
